Live PD is a television show broadcast on the A&E network. The non-fiction program follows police officers in the course of their duties but is unique in the fact that the footage is being broadcast in real-time, nationally. The series premiered on October 28, 2016 with an initial order from A&E of eight two-hour episodes. On February 1, 2017, A&E announced that they had extended season one to 21 episodes. The show has subsequently continued to air episodes past the 21 episodes ordered. The episode scheduled to air on May 13, 2017, was cancelled after a transformer blew at the Midtown, NY studios, which resulted in a power failure. A&E aired a rerun with a crawl message regarding a power failure. The show then took a two-week hiatus before resuming live episodes on June 2, 2017. Season 1 concluded on Aug. 19, 2017, with Abrams announcing Season 2 would premiere in early October 2017. As of October 2017, the show is hosted by Dan Abrams, Tom Morris Jr. and Sergeant Sean "Sticks" Larkin of the Tulsa PD gang unit.
Video Live PD
Overview
Live PD is presented by Dan Abrams, the chief legal affairs anchor for ABC News. The program features live video feeds from multiple (usually six) law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
Abrams is joined in-studio with Co-Hosts, Tom Morris, Jr., and Sgt. Sean "Sticks" Larkin. Each episode opens with an ongoing police call and focus coverage switches between coverage of various incidents as the episode goes on. Pre-taped segments, somewhat more conventionally edited like COPS, are aired to cover periods lacking action. Due to the potential for audience viewers exposure to confidential or otherwise inappropriate material to make it to air, A&E has imposed a delay of unknown length.

Notable incidents
Due to the nature of live television, Live PD has captured incidents that may not have been aired on a traditional law enforcement program. One such event that received coverage was Bridgeport Police Department Sergeant Chris Robinson breaking down on camera after learning 13-month-old Michael Citron had died following Robinson escorting an ambulance carrying the child to a local hospital. As of February 2017, an investigation into the death is ongoing. A second event, involving a Tulsa, Oklahoma man named Randy Wallace, featured Wallace accusing Sgt. Sean "Sticks" Larkin of "profiling" and "stalking." Larkin had approached Wallace, inquiring what Wallace had in his open trunk while noting that Wallace's attire was consistent with gang colors worn in the neighborhood. On Live PD, Wallace was seen giving an impassioned denunciation of Larkin and the Tulsa Police Department as Larkin remained seated in his patrol vehicle. Speaking at a press conference, Wallace alleged, "he slandered me as far as being a gang member and affiliate, he slandered me really bad." In another incident, a family claimed to have recognized their loved one, 37-year-old Benjamin Johnson, deceased on television after what the Richland County Sheriff's Department said was a drug deal gone wrong. Two men were arrested in the case. Another incident that left the viewers shocked was on the July 8th episode where Senior Deputy Chris Mastrianni was called to a fight in progress at a large house party when a car, (leaving the same party), went right past him going about 90 mph (according to the officer). S/D Mastrianni initiated a Traffic Stop on the vehicle, which then proceeded to evade him for several minutes. The car then turned a corner before jumping a curb, hitting a power pole's support wire and rolling over. The driver then crawled out the window of his vehicle with his 2-year-old daughter in his arms, and began fighting with the S/D Mastrianni. The crazed man then released his child whom was taken to safety by the Live PD field producer. After several minutes, M/D Mark Laureano and S/D Katelyn Jasak arrived on scene and aided S/D Mastrianni in handcuffing and arresting the already mostly subdued man, as well as pushing back the rapidly growing crowd of bystanders whom were watching the events unfold, but failed to help the struggling police officer. The toddler received a broken arm from the incident.
Technology
In order to deliver live footage from the field to A&E's master control in New York City, the production uses bonded cellular technology. This allows for a far less constrained and expensive production than would be possible using traditional satellite or microwave transmission technologies.
